It is a remake of the 1994 American film Forrest Gump, which itself is based on Winston Groom’s 1986 novel of the same name, the film stars Khan as the titular character alongside Kareena Kapoor, Naga Chaitanya (in his Hindi film debut) and Mona Singh. as shown.
The Forrest Gump adaptation underwent several changes over a period of two decades, with Atul Kulkarni spending the first ten years adapting the script, and another ten years buying the rights to the remake. Aamir Khan bought the film rights in early 2018 with the help of Los Angeles-based producer and director Radhika Choudhary and officially announced the film with its title on 14 March 2019.
Laal Singh Chaddha has been shot in over 100 Indian locations. Principal photography began on 31 October 2019 in Chandigarh. However, production was halted in India in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, before resuming during mid-September 2020 in Delhi, due to which the film – initially scheduled for a Christmas 2020 release – was delayed .
